The Songwriting Process: Phase 1
“I never judge my own songwriting. It’s just my heart. What’s there to judge about your own heart?” ~Banks Musician Banks has a great point. When musicians write songs from the heart, they place themselves in the most vulnerable head spaces. Everyone is always ready to just state their opinions of songs, and it seems that these opinions tend to make or break entire careers. Yet I’m about to experiment with a musical risk: I’m young and I’ve got a little to lose, but I feel that it’ll all go uphill from here: I have decided to use my blog as a public space for song development. Below is a…

3 Ways to Balance Your Musician Lifestyle and Mental Health
1: Stay Organized 2: Take A Breather 3: Accept Help From Others I met a mindset coach named Suzanne Polinski a couple of weeks ago, and she showed me and my peers a great way to keep organized in the hectic music industry: The 2019 Rock/Star Planner is personalized for musicians to balance out their work life, marketing/finances, deadlines and time for family/friends. 2. This being said, I have noticed throughout the years that when we musicians strive to focus primarily on music … we tend to fall into the bad habit of sacrificing important things (like our physical and mental health) so that we can put more time into…

Viva La(s) Vegas Music Summit 2018
Cost Impact Cost I traveled from NY to Las Vegas to attend VMS, and below I’ve listed some financial aspects I needed to consider: Airfare: About $300 roundtripHotel: VMS has a partnership with a 5 star hotel called the Downtown Grand. The discount rate $50 per night, which can be split between up to 4 people. #blessEntertainment: The Ubers/Lyfts, foods/drinks – they really add up! I recommend to have about $100 readily available, and DEFINITELY more if you plan to gamble and buy souvenirs. Impact You will learn about the music industry! Like a lot about it! My favorite panels focused on how to run a music festival and how to…

Wearable Tech: The MiMu
Musician and entrepreneur Imogen Heap has brought something phenomenal to the world: The MiMu Gloves! They remind me of a theremin that you can wear. There are so many settings to it and it’s over $1000 per glove, but hey if I had that type of cash available I would totally get one, 1000%. They don’t look very comfortable but I’d do it for the music. I’m honestly shocked I have never heard about The MiMu until about a month ago, as they have been in development for a couple of years now. Check out the video below for yourself to see the possibilities you’d have with it!

How I Met Zara Larsson
During the summer of this past year, I started to volunteer for Sofar Sounds Long Island. I began my contributions by checking in guests, and with time I became an essential live sound engineer for the Long Island branch. Have you ever heard of Sofar Sounds? Sofar stands for “Songs From A Room,” and it’s a music events startup was founded in England. Its mission is to build a community by uniting artists and guests together for secret shows in intimate settings, and it has grown to have over 400 participating cities around the world. My car needed a new alternator in the beginning of November, so I was at the mechanic…

Thoughts on LSD! (Labrinth, Sia, Diplo)
Did you think I was referring to our friendly neighborhood psychedelic? This new trio presents flare from 3 very diverse artists. Creative inputs from these artists: Labrinth ~ electrosoulSia ~ electroindie (acid jazz in her earlier days)Diplo ~ EDM So what do I think of LSD? My theory is that LSD intentionally broke away from the commercial music scene that each artist involved keeps getting roped into. I give them props for that, even though by now LSD has gotten pretty popular to the point that it might be considered commercial. My overall opinion is that each artist in LSD is so distinct yet so talented, that they have…
